New lists of products subject to TAREKS

Updates of Turkish import regulations have been published

The Turkish Ministry of Trade published new versions regulations on product groups supervised in imports. The regulations (called “communiqués”) are updated every year and define which groups of products are subject to the registration in the Turkish risk-based import control system TAREKS. Among others, the following categories are affected:

industrial equipment, waste, chemicals, toys, personal protective equipment, batteries, medical devices, vehicle parts, radio and telecommunications and terminal equipment.

Basically, being in a Customs Union with the EU, Turkey recognizes the EU product legislation and the CE marking (in accordance with Decision 1/95 of the EU-Turkey Association Council, 96/142/EC). Normally, EU products entering Turkey are exempted from conformity assessment checks and should have direct access to the Turkish market except where checks are justified on the basis of a risk analysis. Nevertheless, the European Commission reports that EU companies are still experiencing problems when importing into Turkey and test reports are too often required for imported products.

Therefore, EU importers should always stay vigilant and keep the necessary documents ready.
