New Product Safety Law in Turkey

In March 2021, the new Turkish Product Safety Law will come into force. 

The new Turkish Product Safety and Technical Regulations Law No. 7223, which was published in the Official Gazette in March 2020, will come into force on 12 March 2021.  The aim of the law is to further harmonize the Turkish product safety system with the EU legislation and to ensure that all products are supplied to the market in accordance with the safety and technical legislation. 

According to some of the provisions of the Product Safety and Technical Regulations: 

• E-commerce product safety audits will be started. Access to internet pages that sell unsafe products will be blocked. 
• A traceability mechanism has been introduced in order to reach the principal responsible of the unsafe product. Accordingly, the person selling a product in the process until it reaches the consumer’s hands in the supply chain will keep a record of who bought the product and to whom. Traceability will also be an important tool in combating the informal economy. 
• The roles and responsibilities of manufacturers, importers, authorized representatives and distributors regarding product safety have been defined separately. 
• It has been made mandatory to recall unsafe products from consumers.
