Three new UN regulations published in the EU Journal

Texts of UN Regulations 161,162 and 163 in all official EU languages were published recently in the Official Journal of the European Union

The UN regulations, which are supposed to be applicable under EU law, must be first translated into all official EU languages and published in the Official Journal of the European Union.  Recently, three new regulations were published.  These are:

  • UN Regulation No 161 – Uniform provisions concerning the protection of motor vehicles against unauthorized use and the approval of the device against unauthorized use (by mean of a locking system)
  • UN Regulation No 162 – Uniform technical prescriptions concerning approval of immobilizers and approval of a vehicle with regard to its immobilizer
  • UN Regulation No 163 – Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicle alarm system and approval of a vehicle with regard to its vehicle alarm system

These regulations should be now inserted into the Annex II of the type-approval framework Regulation (EU) 2018/858 and into the Annex II of the General Safety Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 in order to become applicable, legally binding requirements for the vehicle type approval.
