Ukraine further harmonizes EU directives

The Ukrainian government amended legislation to meet its obligations to adopt EU directives.

By signing the Association Agreement with the EU, the Ukrainian government has committed itself to removing technical barriers to trade. For instance, dismantling conformity assessment procedures and harmonizing Ukraine’s technical norms and standards with those of the EU.

The most recent amendments concern eco-design requirements for mains-operated refrigerators with a total volume of between 10 and 1500 liters. The Ukrainian draft law is based on Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/2019 of October 1, 2019, laying down ecodesign requirements for refrigeration appliances in accordance with Directive 2009/125/EC of the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC) No. 643/2009.

In order to harmonize the Ukrainian legislation on food safety and quality with the EU legislation, they implemented the European Directive 1999/2/EC. This directive addresses foods and food ingredients treated with ionizing radiation.

By implementing more and more EU directives and harmonizing its technical regulations with those of the EU, Ukraine is significantly simplifying the customs procedure for European companies.
