New radio type approval regulation in Afghanistan

Recently, the Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority (ATRA) published updated Type Approval Regulations, including new labeling instructions.

Under the regulation, all equipment used or to be used in connection with the provision of radio communications is subject to Type Approval by ATRA.

This regulation covers, but it is not limited to, the following equipment:

– Fixed Radio Transmitters

– Mobile Terminal Equipment

– Broadcasting Equipment

– Satellite Transmitter Equipment

– Frequency dependent Medical Equipment and Devices

– Short Range Radio Devices

All applicants for Type Approval are required to register on the ATRA database as a Supplier of Equipment. This registration is a once-off activity at no additional cost to the applicant.  However, registration shall only be afforded to Afghanistan registered entities.

All Type Approved equipment must have a legible label permanently affixed to the outside of such equipment.  The label must be affixed before the equipment is made available on the Afghan market.
