Delegated Regulation on Intelligent Speed Assistance

The EU Commission finally published the new Delegated Regulation on Intelligent Speed Assistance.

The Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/1958 specifies test procedures and technical requirements for the type-approval of motor vehicles with regard to their intelligent speed assistance (ISA) systems.  ISA was prescribed in the EU in the so-called General Safety Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2019/2144) and will be required from 6 July 2022 for new car models.

Rather than imposing one homogenous technical specification for all ISA systems, the Regulation 2021/1958 permits several options and allows vehicle manufacturers to select the most appropriate of them for their vehicles.

The Regulation also contains a catalogue of road signs that ISA systems should be able to recognize and  based upon which the type-approval authorities and technical services shall assess the  performance of the ISA systems.

Do not hesitate to contact our EFS Product Compliance Team to find out more about the new requirements of the General Safety Regulation and for Intelligent Speed Assistance systems.
