New RoHS requirements in Oman

New rules regarding the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment will come into force on the 30th of June, according to an Omani technical notice.

The new Regulation imposes the same restrictions as in EU Directive 2017/2102, the EU’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipment. Among the affected products are radios in cars and other transport vehicles, radio equipment embedded in other products like telephones or stereo systems, as well as modems and routers.

Beginning on the 30th of June 2020, the national Telecommunication Regulatory Authority’s type approval requirements includes the necessity to comply with the new substance restrictions.

RoHS restricted substances and their maximum concentrations (by weight %) in homogeneous materials are:

Notably, the GCC is also currently working on a RoHS regulation. Once it enters into force, it will establish RoHS requirements for the Markets of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
