New RoHS regulation in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia published a draft Technical regulation for Restriction of Hazardous Substances which can be seen as an equivalent to the European RoHS
The Technical regulation published by the Saudi Arabia Standards Organization (SASO) affects electrical and electronic products with respect to the restriction of several hazardous substances. It specifies among other things supplier obligations, labelling requirements, conformity assessment procedures, responsibilities of regulatory and market supervisory authorities as well as violations and penalties.
The WTO notification about the Technical regulation contains a list of HS codes of products which are in the scope. They have to undergo a conformity assessment with regard to a catalogue of 10 hazardous substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, as well as 6 phtalates: PBB, PBDE, DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP).
The proposed date of entry into force of the regulation is 7 June 2021.
