UN Regulations on lighting in the EU Official Journal

Recently, the texts of the UN Regulations 48, 148, 149, 150 were published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The Regulations concern the installation and approval of light-signalling devices, road illumination devices and retro-reflective devices for power-driven vehicles.

The Regulations were prepared by the UNECE World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) several months ago (see our Insight) and were now published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

They combine requirements of the existing multiple regulations for vehicle lighting and are supposed to replace them.  The objective is to increase the clarity, to consolidate and streamline the complexity of requirements in UN Regulations and to prepare for the future transition to performance-based requirements, by reducing the number of UN Regulations.

To find out more about the new UN regulations and their relation with the previous regulations for lighting, do not hesitate to contact the EFS Product Compliance Team.
