United Kingdom amends CLP Regulation on Substances and Mixtures

The Great Britain mandatory classification and labeling list under the CLP Regulation has been revised.

The list of substances has been extended and will become mandatory in April 2025.

The United Kingdom government adopted an amendment to its Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (the GB CLP [Classification and Labelling] Regulation). Based on the CLP Regulation, manufacturers, importers or downstream users of substances or mixtures are obliged to classify, label and package chemicals appropriately before placing them on the market. These substances are entered into the GB MCL (mandatory classification and labelling) List and constantly updated.

The latest revision to the Great Britain MCL List adds and revises 26 entries of substances, including the introduction of ammonium bromide, bisphenol A and benzyl salicylate. Following the amendment, the classification and labelling of the new and revised GB MCLs for the 98 substances should be reviewed and updated by duty holders without undue delay.

The updated GB MCL List is available here. The requirements can already be implemented on a voluntary basis and will become mandatory starting on 20 April 2025.
