NHTSA Requests Comments on Cybersecurity Best Practices

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA is requesting comments on the draft on Cybersecurity Best Practices for the Safety of Modern Vehicles. 

On January 8th, 2021, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA submitted a draft on Cybersecurity Best Practices for the Safety of Modern Vehicles to the Federal Register for publication to consolidate current industry knowledge and insights. 

The rapid growth of connectivity in modern automobiles has led to an ever-growing need for cyber security in vehicles in order to ensure the safety of all road users. 

Therefore, with the updated 2020 Edition of the 2016 Best Practices, the NHTSA aims to consolidate the recent changes in research and industry activities pertaining cybersecurity and encourages public comments. 

In short, the document covers cybersecurity issues for all motor vehicles, its equipment and software and applies to vehicle equipment designers, suppliers, and manufacturers.
