New standard for household electrical appliances

China published a new standard for household electrical appliances

The full name of the draft standard is National Standard of the P.R.C., Household and Similar Electrical Appliances General Requirements –Product Safety.

It specifies the terms, definitions, requirements and verification methods for general safety of household and similar electrical appliances.  The document is applicable to installation, use, maintenance, repair and other aspects of the life cycle of household and similar electrical appliances. The standards is also applicable to the electrical parts of sporting goods and electric toys.

The technical content of the standard is formulated based on the “Product Quality Law of the People’s Republic of China”, the “Consumer Rights Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China” and the “Standardization Law of the People’s Republic of China” as well as on the specific implementations of these laws.

The international standards used as a basis for the technical content of this document include IEC60335 “Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances” series of standards and IEC 62115 “Safety of Electric Toys.”
