Taiwan’s new Amendment to Commodity Labeling Act

After 11 years, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs is amending the Commodity Labeling Act again.

 The purpose of the Amendment is to further promote the proper labeling of goods, to protect the reputation of business owners and the rights and interests of consumers.  Taiwan’s Commodity Labeling Law mandates that all commodities sold in Taiwan must be labeled in Chinese and may be supplemented by English or another foreign language, if necessary.


BSMI adaptation of electrical safety specifications

Taiwans proposal to adopt electrical safety specifications, electromagnetic compatibility and related inspections standards has been transposed

Taiwans Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) published a new proposal in November 2021, through WTO notifications, to renew the current version of safety specifications in reference to electrics and electronics to meet international standards of consumer safety. The proposed changes have been implemented.


Inclusion of QR codes in the BSMI marking in Taiwan

Taiwan published a Proposal for Amendments to Regulations Governing the Use of Commodity Inspection Mark

The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan is proposing to amend the “Regulation Governing the Use of Commodity Inspection Mark” to introduce QR code as additional labeling requirement, which will enable consumers to access the compliance information of the product by simply scanning the QR code with their smart devices.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) issued an update concerning the date of entry into force of several new amendments of the Taiwanese Motor Vehicle Safety Testing Regulations.
