New Mexican standard NOM for commercial information

The draft standard will introduce new requirements for commercial information for packaging, instructions and warranties for electronic, electrical and household appliances.

The National Consultative Committee for Standardization of the Ministry of the Economy has published a Draft Official Mexican Standard PROY-NOM-024-SE-2022.


Updates to radio type approval in Mexico again

Mexico published new homologation guidelines applicable to the telecommunications products or broadcasting, connected to a telecommunications network or using the radio spectrum

The Mexican radio regulator IFT (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones) published an adjusted Conformity Assessment Procedure (PEC) for radio devices.  It is yet another change of the radio type approval regulation in the recent months.


Safety devices for light vehicles

Mexico updates its technical regulation for safety devices in light vehicles

Mexico recently published the new Draft Mexican Official Standard PROY-NOM-194-SE-2021, Safety devices for new light vehicles-Requirements and specifications.  It will cancel the previous standard NOM-194-SCFI-2015 which was published on May 9, 2016


New Mexican radio type approval procedure

On February 25, 2021, a new Mexican radio conformity assessment procedure will enter into force.

As we wrote in our in insight published last year, the Telecommunication and Broadcasting Conformity Assessment Procedure in Mexico will come into force on February 25, 2021.  It establishes a new type approval procedure for products, equipment, devices and infrastructure for telecommunications or broadcasting that can be connected to a telecommunications network and / or make use of the radio spectrum.


Changes to the Mexican standard for emissions and OBD

Transition periods for certain emissions in the Mexican standard NOM-044-SEMARNAT-2017 were updated

The standard NOM-044-SEMARNAT-2017 establishes the maximum permissible emission limits for carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, non-methane hydrocarbons, non-methane hydrocarbons plus nitrogen oxides, particulates and ammonia, from the exhaust of new engines that use diesel as fuel and that will be used for propulsion of motor vehicles with gross vehicle weight greater than 3,857 kilograms.


New regulation for vehicle gas systems in Mexico

Mexico published a draft regulation for natural gas systems used in vehicles

Mexico notified the publication of draft Mexican Official Standard PROY-NOM-234-SCFI-2019, “Vehicle natural gas. Minimum safety requirements for vehicle systems”, which cancels the standard NOM-011-SECRE-2000.


Entry into force of NOM-001 postponed

The Official Mexican Standard for electronic devices did not come into force, as expected, on the 14th May 2020

The updated version of the Official Mexican Standard NOM-001-SCFI-2018 for electronic equipment (which replaces the previous NOM-001-SCFI-1993) which was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on the 17 September 2019, was supposed to enter into force in May 2020. However, due to the insufficient number of accredited testing labs, the entry into force was postponed till 14 August 2020.


New radio type approval procedure in Mexico

Mexico passed a new radio type approval procedure. It will enter into force on the 25th February 2021

Very recently, after a public consultation we described in our previous insight, the Telecommunication and Broadcasting Conformity Assessment Procedure (Procedimiento de Evaluación de la Conformidad en materia de telecomunicaciones y radiodifusión) was published in the Mexican Official Journal of the Federation.


Consultation on a new Radio Type Approval

The Mexican telecommunications authority IFT launched public consultations on a new type approval procedure for radio equipment.

In November 2019, a consultation paper on a new radio type approval procedure was published on the website of the Mexican telecommunications regulator IFT (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones). Until now, the Mexican type approval was regulated by several legal acts and procedures, which could lead to confusion.
