New draft EU Machinery Regulation published

This means there will be significant amendments and consequences for the mechanical and plant engineering industry.

The aim of this European regulation is to replace the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC to become the new central set of regulations for the safety of machinery and equipment.


Updates to the Technical Regulation for Machinery

The list of products subject to EAC conformity assessment for machinery was updated

Recently, the list of equipment subject to certification or declaration of conformity in accordance with the Technical Regulation of the Customs Union CU 010/2011 ”On safety of machinery and equipment” came into force in a new edition.


New EU regulation on machinery products

The proposal for a new Machinery Regulation takes into account the result of the evaluation of the machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Following the recommendations highlighted during the evaluation it covers:


Updated standards for machinery in the EU

In the Official Journal of the European Union, new list of harmonized standards for Directive 2014/54/EU concerning machinery and other equipment was published

The updated list is established in Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/1813, which amends Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/436 and repeals Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2015/27. Among the affected items are aircraft ground support equipment, cranes, mining tools, and other machinery.


New EU draft Machinery Regulation

The European Commission published a new draft of the Machinery Regulation which would replace the existing Machinery Directive

A proposal of the Machinery Regulation is a part of the EU initiative to make Europe fit for the Digital Age and is accompanied by a Regulation laying down harmonized rules on artificial intelligence (Artificial Intelligence Act).  The new Machinery Regulation will ensure the safe integration of the AI system into the overall machinery. Businesses will need to perform only one single conformity assessment.


New harmonized standards under Machinery Directive

New harmonized standards under the EU Machinery Directive have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union

In the beginning of April 2020, Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2020/480 was published which updated the list of harmonized standards under the EU Machinery Directive. The act amended the existing Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/436 on harmonised standards for machinery. 26 new standards were added to the list for the first time and for 24 existing standards a transition period was declared.


Amendments to EAC certification for machinery

Technical Regulation of the Customs Union 010/2011 “On safety of machinery and equipment” has been updated

The Council of the Eurasian Economic Union published on its website a draft amendment to the Technical Regulation of the Customs Union 010/2011 “On safety of machinery and equipment” approved by the Decision of the Commission N° 823.
