BIS certification for motorcycle helmets planned
India published a draft regulation which makes motorcycle helmets subject to the BIS certification
The Protective helmet for two wheeler riders (Quality Control) Order, 2020 is supposed to come into effect on 1st March 2021. It will require an obligatory certification of helmets under the BIS Conformity Assessment.
Helmets will have to comply with the standard IS 4151:2015 Protective Helmet for Two Wheeler Riders and bear the ISI Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
