Draft amendments to the decree for motorcycles
Chile is amending the Decree 123 which establishes technical requirements that motorcycle security devices and systems must comply
Chile recently published a proposed modification of Decree No. 123, of 2014, in the sense of updating and complementing the technical and safety standards applicable to motorcycles. The modifications cover, among others, such aspects of motorcycles as lights, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and combined braking system (CBS).
One of the reasons for the modification is that the Decree 123 referred to EU regulations, which have been repealed and replaced or the requirements for new vehicles have been updated, through the issuance of new regulations.
Moreover, the amendments of the safety requirements have been necessary because in Chile, compared to 2008, there has been an 86% increase in accidents involving motorcycles and an 87% increase in deaths in them.
