Updates of the Korean RoHS
South Korea’s Ministry of Environment has announced planned amendments to its Enforcement Decree of the Act on Resource Circulation of Electrical and Electronic Products
The Enforcement Decree of the Act on Resource Circulation of Electrical and Electronic Products can be seen as an equivalent to the EU RoHS (Restrictions on Hazardous Substances) Directives which restrict (with exceptions) the use of several hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment.
As a result of the amendments, the Korean RoHS will be further harmonized with the European system. Just like in the EU by force of the Directive 2015/863 (so called RoHS 3), in South Korea the four following restricted substances will be added to the list:
- Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
- Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
Moreover, the product catalogue will be extended. 23 new product categories will be added to the existing 26 affected by the regulation:
- Vending Machines
- Dehumidifiers
- Toasters
- Electric Kettles
- Electric Water Heaters
- Electric Frying Pans
- Hair Dryers
- Treadmills
- Surveillance Cameras
- Food Dehydrators
- Electric appliances for Massage
- Foot Spas
- Sewing Machines
- Video Game Consoles
- Wired and Wireless Routers
- Scanners (not including portable scanner)
- Bread Makers
- GPS Navigation Devices
- Fryers
- Projectors (not including portable projector)
- Coffee Machines
- Herbal Medicine Cookers
- Spin Dryers
