Approval of MERCOSUR Regulations on Textile-Labelling
Paraguay approves the MERCOSUR resolution No 62/18 on labelling of textile products in order to facilitate free trade.
On the 20th of February 2020, Paraguay published the decree No 3383, which states the incorporation of the MERCUSOR resolution No 62/18 (MERCOSUR Technical Regulation on Labelling of Textile Products) into its legal order. The decree will enter into force from the date of its promulgation.
The new technical regulation shall provide a clear and correct identification of the composition of textile products, their dimensions, the weight of the fabrics and the yarn count. Additionally, characteristics of treatment, cleaning, and conservation of the textile products throughout their useful life shall be identifiable. All in all, this will benefit consumers and will allow the textile products to be unequivocally identified in the event of an eventual inspection of the company by the competent authority.
The following information has to be present on the label:
- Company name or trademark registered and tax identification of the national manufacturer or importer
- Country of origin
- Name of the textile fibres or textile filaments and their expressed content in percentage by mass
- Care treatment for product conservation
- Indication of the size or dimension, as appropriate
Along with Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay are member states of MERCOSUR. A homogenous legislation for textiles should facilitate the trade in these products between them.
