Safety Glass subject to the Indian BIS certification
Safety Glass for road transport will be made subject to the Indian BIS certification and marking requirements
According to a recent Bureau of Indian Standards notification, Safety Glass for road transport will be added to the list of products subject to the compulsory use of the Indian standard mark and the BIS certification. The requirements will entry into force 180 days from the date of the publication of the Safety Glass (Quality Control) Order, 2020 in the official Gazette.
Safety Glass will have to be certified according to the Indian standard IS: 2553 (Part 2): 2019 and bear the Standard Mark under a licence from the Bureau as per the Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standard (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Rumours that automotive products may become subject to the mandatory Indian certification have been circulating on the market for a couple of years. Safety glass for road transport might be only the beginning – is the Bureau of Indian Standards planning to add more automotive products to the scope of mandatory certification?
