New automotive standards adopted in Kenya
Kenya has adopted 7 new standards for road vehicles
Recently, Kenya informed other WTO members that it adopted several standards for road vehicles which had been published for public review a couple of months ago. The standards are:
KS 334: 2020 Road Vehicles – Fuel Filters – Specifications
KS 649-2:2020 Automobile windscreens – Specification
KS 293:2020 Oil filters – Specification
KS 395:2020 Rubber automobile radiators hoses – Specification
KS 294:2020 Road vehicles – Air filters – Specification
KS 251:2020 Motor vehicle radiators – Specification
KS 249:2020 Automobile drum brake linings and disk brake pads – Specification
Some of the standards are based on the international ISO standards, some others, interestingly, refer to the Indian IS standards.
The compliance with the standards may be required in the Pre-Export Verification to Conformity (PVoC) programme by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) to receive a Certificate of Conformity.
