Public consultation on vehicle conformity assessment
Brazil is carrying out a public consultation on an amendment to the Conformity Assessment Requirements for Light Passenger and Commercial Vehicles
The Brazilian authority INMETRO (National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology) has announced its intention to amend the Ordinance No. 377, 29 September 2011 setting out the Conformity Assessment Requirements for Light Passenger and Commercial Vehicles and called for comments. The act containing the amendments is referred to as Ordinance No. 16 of 7 October 2020.
The main changes affect the energy efficiency of vehicles and their use of the National Label for Energy Conservation (ENCE – Etiqueta Nacional de Conservação de Energia). The Ordinance No. 16 sets out a method for the vehicle classification in relation to the Combined Energy Consumption (Consumo Energético Combinado) as well as defines the steps of the conformity assessment process. The compliance of the vehicle with the energy efficiency requirements should be confirmed by the supplier via a declaration of conformity.
The draft of the Ordinance No. 16 can be accessed here and a sample of the ENCE label here.
