New harmonized RoHS standard enters into force
New harmonized standard for the Restrictions on Hazardous Substances directive has just come into force
The new standard EN 63000:2018 Technical documentation for the assessment of electrical and electronic products with respect to the restriction of hazardous substances replaced the current one on November 18, 2021.
The EU Commission decided to update the previous standard EN 50581:2012 with the decision (EU) 2020/659, already on May 15, 2020.
Even if the content of the new standard does not differ much from the old one, the declarations of conformity that are formally affected must be updated.
Interestingly, EN 63000:2018 is currently the only standard harmonized under the RoHS directive (other directives, like LVD or EMC, have more of them).
Economic actors such as manufacturers and importers should always keep themselves up to date with regard to the current status of the harmonized implementation standards.
