New Radio Type Approval regulation in Malawi

According to the market rumours, the Malawian radio regulator MACRA is planning a new radio type approval regulation 

The new draft law Communications (Type Approval) Regulations, 2020 will lay down the procedure for radio type approval, labelling requirements, approval processing times and validity periods of the type approval certificates. 

Any electronic equipment that connect to an electronic communication network will be covered by the new procedure.  After the certification (including sample testing), an identification mark containing, among others, the logo of the authority, should be permanently affixed to it. 

The equipment may be exempted from the standard type approval procedure if has been tested and type approved by an accredited entity.  In this case, MACRA would require type approval certificates, test reports and technical documentation of the equipment. 

Reference standards of conformity for the electronic equipment in Malawi will be the European ETSI EN standards.
