Draft Ministerial Regulation on Vehicles in Thailand

Recently the Thai Ministry of Industry published two Draft Ministerial Regulations with regard to the protection of the occupants in the event of a frontal- and lateral collision.

The first draft is connected to the Thai Standard (TIS 2400-256X(202X)) and the second draft to (TIS 2399-256X(202X)). The key points are that vehicles of the category M1 with a maximum mass of not more than 3,500 kilograms and N1, which are manufactured after the effective date of the Ordinance are required to comply with the Thai Industrial Standard with respect to occupant protection in a frontal collision (TIS 2400-256X(202X)) and lateral collision (TIS 2399-256X(202X)).

Further, relevant documents in relation to the draft regulations are on one hand the UN Regulation 94 (TIS 2400-256X(202X)) and on the other hand the UN Regulation 95 (2015/1093) (TIS 2399-256X(202X)).

The proposed effective date for both Draft Ministerial Regulations is changed to 2 years after the date of publication in the Government Gazette.
